Plug and Spread Made Easy

This is a 4-1/2 minute video about the “Plug-and-Spread” method of harvesting water from gullies.

Water harvesting including Plug and Spread, in combination with Keyline sub-soiling, wild animal impact and planned grazing of cattle are the cheapest, easiest and quickest way to restore water function to degraded desert grasslands.

    Hi Chris,

Thank you for sending the Plug and Spread video from Circle Ranch. Very nicely done. I hadn’t had a chance to view it until now. It very nicely defines the problem in terms of the extent and intensity of erosion issues and the potential for linking plug and spread with keyline treatments.

The application as portrayed in the video varies somewhat from the typical treatment as I use it in that you are using a constructed
channel to convey the water to and across the landscape, similar to classic irrigation system. This should work well as long as the channel has sufficient capacity to accommodate large storm events. I’m looking forward to seeing it with you.
